Big Canopy Campout is all about connection.

We want to provide an opportunity and a platform for people, projects, and places to tell their stories of resistance, success and disappointments working with and for native forests.

Our online platform provides a space for people to interact and join an event without the added pressure of time, money, and logistics of traveling to one specific location.

Our event is made up of hundreds of smaller events around the world. That’s why sharing your personal campout is so important to creating the whole event itself!

Do you have a story about native forest protection or would like to connect with us during the campout weekend?

Story, as it turns out, was crucial to our evolution — more so than opposable thumbs. Opposable thumbs let us hang on; story told us what to hang on to.

The Travelling Tree Spoons

It started in 2018 with the first hand crafted spoon. Carved by firelight (possible also a head torch..) in remote Wales on the night of the Big Canopy Campout under a full moon with the wind whistling through the trees….

Once lovingly carved and sent to BCC, each new spoon is sent out into the world of canopy campers to begin its journey of travelling between campouts. The rules are simple; to have the responsibility of custodian is to take your Travelling Tree Spoon on an adventure into the forest then pass it onto someone else to continue its journey. Send photos and locations so we can mark its progress!

If you would like to apply to be a custodian of this year’s Travelling Tree Spoon get in touch!
