Campout 2023 debrief!!

First Impressions from the Weekend

51 Campouts in 23 different countries with 755 people in total camping out in forests worldwide last weekend.

Sweden, England, Switzerland, Scotland, Ecuador, Ireland, Russia, Netherlands, Wales, Spain, New Zealand, Germany, Australia, Tasmania, Peru, Austria, Belgium, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil, Portugal, France. Philipines

We had all weathers from scorching sun to 50kph winds and every kind of rain possible! All different types of camps from the tree tops to forest floor dwelling and from bothies to caves this year’s campout has showered us with the most colourful and diverse collection of camps we’ve had. There were groups of over 60 people in some places in contrast to several solo camps highlighting the different ways we connect and enjoy our natural world.

There were fires, cooking, informed nature walks and documentary showings happening all over world as we celebrated the very places that we also stood in peaceful protest to protect during the annual Big Canopy Campout 2023. Here are the first impressions and highlights.

Share your photos with us!

Every year we ask people to share their stories, photos and highlights from the weekend to connect with the other campouts and learn about all the different people standing up for native forests world wide.

We’ve seen some fantastic clips on our social media over the weekend and we’d love to see and hear more!! If you are happy and willing to send some of your highlights to us that we can share and use in future short videos and on the website for the community to see then please upload these files to our Google Photo Album clearly labelled with your camp and/or full name so we know where they come from!

If you have more than 5-10 photos and want to share larger files (up to 2GB) please use WeTransfer and send to hello@bigcanopycampout.com and tell us a bit about yourself, campout, area etc

Fundraising for Forests

Donations from our campouts have started coming in already with CanopyCamp050 in the Netherlands raising an incredible €2060 alone! Camp Beer Monkey’s in Belgium not only set up what looks like a tribute to cirque du soleil but raised over €600 with their neighboroughing Belgium camp Tree Day Bender raising over €500! Despite the weather, camp Tree Hugs in Germany raised €182 with a showing of the full length documentary telling the Siekopai Story.

With the aim to raise £20 000 to build a medicinal plant laboratory for the Siekoya Remolino and provide the equipment and skills necessary to harvest, process and sell their own products this project will set a foundation of self sustainability for the community of forest defenders to continue living in harmony with their ancestral rainforest home.

All donations can be sent through our donation link on the website or if you require details of the account please get in touch.

We’ll be back in touch with more news as people continue to send through their updates and stories!
